It was made to carry a message close to the heart, and more than a century later, that feeling still lands.

This antique French pendant is signed A. Augis, the legendary Lyon jeweler behind some of the most collectible French love medals. The center reads “+ QU’HIER – QUE DEMAIN”, the iconic sentiment inspired by Rosemonde Gérard’s verse: more than yesterday, less than tomorrow.

The design turns the words into symbols. A diamond-set plus sign stands for “more,” while the ruby-set minus sign stands for “less.” It is basically a tiny love equation in gold. Romantic, clever, and very French.

I especially love this one because it has so much presence. At 33mm, it is a substantial version of the classic Augis medal. The ruby halo takes it even further. It gives the old-world sentiment this rich, glamorous frame that feels amazing mixed into a modern neck stack.

Details

Antique French A.
