Antique 18k Gold Enamel Portrait Watch Necklace

A rare jewel of artistry and function, this necklace features a finely detailed 18k gold antique watch chain adorned with green guilloché enameled links, measuring 55 cm (21.6 inches) in length. 

Suspended from the chain is a remarkable ornate enamel watch, measuring 22 x 34 mm (0.86 x 1.34 inches). The front showcases a hand-painted portrait of a refined lady, her powdered hair adorned with a blue ribbon bow, evoking the elegance of 18th-century French courtly style. The portrait is framed in green enamel and a delicate border of seed pearls, adding luminous texture and depth. The portrait side opens to solid gold panels that would be perfect for r engraving. 

The watch is finished with a leaf-motif bail, also enameled in vivid green, cleverly concealing a dog clip at the back. 

On the reverse, the watch face is encircled with pearls, revealing Roman numerals and finely worked gold hands. A miniature timepiece that is very well preserved. The watch is in working condition, though I am not sure if it keeps accurate time. The watch face glass also is hinged, and opens up for maintenance.

This piece embodies both romantic history and wearable art, a treasure from a bygone era where portraiture, enamelwork, and jewelry met in harmony.
